For more years than many of us have been on this earth the Coney Island Boardwalk has existed, thrived, died and been reborn again. Well, the corporate machine in NYC is trying to kill it one last time by denying the renewal of nine leases of Mom n’ Pop stores, restaurants and venues on Coney’s boardwalk. Among these are Ruby’s, Cha Cha’s, Paul’s Daughter, Grill House, Gyro Corner, Shoot the Freak, Beer Island, Pio Pio Riko and Coney Island Souvenir Shop.
Many of you have played with your bands at on the boardwalk, at Cha’s Cha’s or Ruby’s and some just played in amusement park. Now it’s time to stand together and save the her history for our children and the child inside all of us who longs for fun in the sun on the Coney Island boardwalk. If we don’t stop this steam roller… pretty soon this will all be just be a memory.
